Paradise Cove - Hula Instrument Demonstration with a native hawaiian

Description

The fun begins when you’re picked up from Waikiki and transported in style to the leeward coast of O’ahu in an air-conditioned, luxury motor coach (transportation optional). A professional native-guide well-versed in the fine art of entertaining will accompany you on your hour-long ride to the site of your lu’au: the beautiful Ko’olina Resort.

Enjoy the royal treatment as you are greeted with a lei and a Mai Tai when you enter! Pose with one or two of the hula dancers from the night’s show for a keepsake photo, then just relax on the beautiful, tropical coastline property while the melodies of an island guitar soothe you, or partake in one of the many recreational activities in Paradise Cove’s Hawaiian village:

Try your hand at one of the games of skill which in ancient times were used to test the skills of Hawaiian warriors. Try to hit the target in ‘O’o ‘ihe, or spear throwing, or test your aim in ‘ulu maika, Hawaiian bowling. Go for a relaxing canoe ride in a private lagoon or learn how to play an ancient Hawaiian hula instrument.

There are a multitude of things to do. Get a temporary tattoo from a Polynesian, have your picture taken with parrots and their beautiful plumage, watch as one of the natives scrambles up a 40-foot coconut tree and rains down fragrant flowers, learn a hula dance or how to wear a pareo (sarong) in various ways, or just kick back and enjoy the sunset from one of the best vantage points on the island.

Head over to the white sand beach fronting the private lagoon and participate in the hukilau, the tradition of many people pulling in the giant fishing net to fetch the catch of the day.

The Royal Court will meet you at O’ahu’s only imu amphitheater for the imu ceremony, where the main course of the night will be removed from the earthen oven it spent all day cooking in. The always picturesque Hawaiian sunset will be your backdrop for the ceremony.

Then comes every Hawaiian’s favorite part of the night: dinner. Enjoy the appetizing spread of lu’au fare, from Kalua pig to poi, and enjoy one of your complimentary island drinks from the bar.

After dinner (or while you’re still finishing it), sit back and enjoy the main show of the evening. The Paradise Cove Hawaiian Revue is an island spectacular containing the exciting dances of the most popular Polynesian cultures. See the poi-ball performances of Aotearoa (New Zealand), Hawaiian hula stick dancing, the sitting hula, the Tahitian fast-hip-shaking dance, and of course, the heart and drum-pounding fire knife dance. A few lucky audience members may even get to go on stage and perform a hula for the audience and receive a special treat.

Finally, ride back to Waikiki on a luxury motor-coach with your unforgettable photos and memories.
